Announcing the “Abnormal” Issue:
What does it mean to be normal? We aren’t sure, but we’re curious to explore the line where a person, place, or thing crosses into being abnormal. For our fall 2012 issue, we’re looking for some intriguing answers to this question—through short stories, essays, and poems. Please send us work that is atypical. Whether through form, plot, characters’ quirks, or an investigation of potentially odd subject matter—we want to read things that are outside the norm. To be more specific would spoil the fun. We look forward to reading any and all submissions that explore the “abnormal.”
Our spring issues are not themed, and we continue to consider submissions for all upcoming issues, regardless of theme.
- Ecotone’s reading period is August 15–April 15. We adhere strictly to these postmark/submission dates. Any submission outside this period will be recycled immediately.
- Submit one prose piece and/or one to six poems at a time.
- Prose should be typed double-spaced and be no longer than thirty pages.
- Poems should be typed either single- or double-spaced on one side of the page.
- Query letters should be sent to info@ecotonejournal.com for longer pieces.
- We have no preference in regards to names in headers or footers.
- Novel and memoir excerpts are acceptable if they are self-contained.
- Please do not send multiple submissions in one genre. Simultaneous submissions are accepted, but please let us know that you are submitting simultaneously and do notify us promptly if the manuscript is accepted elsewhere. Do not send another manuscript until you hear about the first. Reporting time is generally three months.
- In general, address submissions to the editor in your genre.
We do not print previously published work. We assume no responsibility for delay, loss, or damage. For more information about literary magazines, consult directories such as The Writer's Market™ and The International Directory of Literary Magazines and Small Presses.
